Our Story

Who We Are
In 2015, Alex and Vanessa Valdi (Short for Valderrabano) purchased their property in Powell River and began their journey into poultry rearing, growing produce, hatching chicks and milling wood with one focus: to eat clean and sustainable foods, be as earth-friendly as possible, build a home and partake in a community that they could proudly raise a family in. The town of Powell River -a town that celebrates diversity, is community-centred and strongly supports local businesses- seemed to fit what they were looking for and so after finding a beautiful Acreage on Serendipity Rd they undertook the process of taking unfarmed, overgrown land and converting it into an egg, meat and produce farm complete with two ponds, a nut grove, an orchard, a beach (for stay at home getaways) and much more to come. With ever-evolving plans, the Valdis have set their sights high in meeting the demand for local, sustainable foods and delight in the positive feedback they receive on their products. Originally an off-grid farm, this last year, among many strides forward, the Valdis have hooked up to Hydro which will increase hatching capabilities, food storage and make for a more efficient and earth-conscious setup. They are also nearing the completion of their home which features beautiful timbers milled from the property’s wood and by Alex on their portable bandsaw mill which is for hire for your custom milling needs.

The Valdi Homestead values the importance of quality life for their chickens, turkeys and ducks; they exceed expectations for industry standards and through the compost pickup program at Freshco they are able to divert 1000’s of pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to supplement their animals’ diets making for far tastier and healthier eggs, and meats. The enclosures are all separately contained and inspected by BC Egg under the Small Lot Program for health, maintenance and tested, and cleared for Salmonella. The grounds are also inspected for environmental consideration by the Environment Farm Plan Program, and through Malaspina Conservancy 100 protected fir saplings were planted on the property this year. The Valdi Homestead have proudly made their name by providing delicious eggs and seasonal turkey and have applied the same standards into raising meat chickens resulting in a delicious and conscientious choice for feeding your family. When you purchase from The Valdi Homestead you are supporting local business, environmentally conscious, regenerative farming, well-loved, happy animals, waste-reducing practices in the community and feeding your health by choosing foods that are fresh, nutritionally rich and reduce your steps from sunshine.
